A wonderfully characterful vintage wooden steamer trunk with original Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company labels and a separate removable metal liner.
A real statement piece, full of age and history. The trunk has been painted in a warm ochre/mustard yellow at some point during its life, with years of knocks, rubbing and wear revealing earlier colours beneath. I have deliberately left this untouched – the wonderfully timeworn finish is very much part of its appeal.
The trunk opens to reveal its substantial removable metal liner, which simply lifts/slides out as a separate piece. This is an unusual surviving feature and adds another layer of interest to the trunk and its original travelling/storage purpose.
Original P&O labels remain visible to the exterior, together with old stencilled lettering to the timber beneath the liner. The interior and underside show the honest construction and considerable history of the piece.
A great piece for an English country, eclectic or industrial interior. Its proportions make it particularly good repurposed as a large coffee table, while retaining plenty of useful storage inside. Equally lovely at the end of a bed, in a hallway or simply used as a decorative storage trunk.

This is a genuinely old, well-used trunk and its condition reflects its age and history.
There is extensive wear, chipping, rubbing, marks and losses to the painted finish, together with knocks and general signs of use throughout. The removable metal liner has oxidation, surface rust, marks and wear consistent with age.
These are all clearly visible in the photographs and form an important part of the character and history of the piece that can only be created over time, rather than something I have attempted to disguise or restore.

Furniture is delivered using a trusted independent furniture courier rather than a parcel service wherever possible.
Delivery is generally to a ground-floor room with reasonable access. Please ensure that you have checked all doorways, hallways, stairways and access points before purchasing and that the item will fit into its intended location.
Any particularly difficult access, stairs, restricted parking, congestion or other circumstances that may affect delivery must be discussed before purchase. Additional charges may apply where special arrangements are required.
Delivery dates are arranged directly with the courier and a suitable date will be offered once the delivery route has been planned. As an independent furniture courier service, delivery is not normally available on a specific nominated day unless agreed in advance.
Collection is also very welcome by prior arrangement.
RETURNS:
As this is a vintage piece, signs of age, wear, previous use and minor imperfections should be expected and are part of its individual character. Every effort is made to describe and photograph condition accurately.
Returns are accepted in accordance with the listing terms. Where a return is due to a change of mind, suitability, dimensions or access, the buyer is responsible for both the original delivery cost and the cost of returning the item safely.
