A wonderfully characterful vintage oil painting depicting a traditional sailing boat on the water, with bold russet red sails set against a softly painted pale sky and turquoise sea.
There is a lovely looseness to the brushwork, particularly through the sails and reflections on the water, giving the painting an expressive, almost naïve quality. The warm earthy reds and soft blue-green tones make it an easy piece to introduce into both traditional and more contemporary interiors.
Painted on board and left unframed, which I rather like — it gives the piece an informal quality and allows the slightly time-worn edges and textured surface to remain part of its character. It looks particularly lovely simply propped on a shelf, mantel or amongst a collection of favourite pieces.
A charming little coastal painting with plenty of personality and a wonderfully relaxed feel.
Condition: Vintage condition with age-related marks and wear to the board and painted surface, all of which I feel sit comfortably with the character of the piece. Please refer to the photographs as these form part of the description.
